About the Centre
The Yan Suryana
Cultural Centre provides exhibition, studio and learning centre that is friendly,
flexible, accessible and inexpensive for young artists.
The Centre is located
at Yan Suryana’s family house in Petulu – the village of the white herons, 10
minutes drive from the centre of Ubud.
The
Centre can accommodate residencies or is open to drop in visits. Visual artists,
writers, musicians, film makers, journalists, performers, actors and directors in
all art forms are welcomed. Whether from Indonesia or other parts of the world,
all are encouraged to interact and exchange ideas in a stimulating, inspirational
environment, where basic needs such as accommodation, materials and promotional
and organizational help can be met. The Centre can be an important first step for
emerging artists to gain experience and confidence, to work alongside established
artists and practise and develop their work in an understanding, honest and
supportive environment.
Once completed the buildings
will house a Gallery, studios and performance space. There will be opportunities
for public workshops and performances.
A range of exciting and
successful activities and events have already taken place. A regular program of
workshops, performances, demonstrations and collaborations is in progress:

A soft opening
by acclaimed Indonesian Poet, Playwright and Scholar W S Rendra.

Launch of Yan
Suryana’s book “Crossing the Sea of Colours”
·
Poetry reading
by W S Rendra
·
Music
performances by local artists and by various groups from Bali and Java
·
Regular painting
workshops and demonstrations
·
Mural painting
by members of the Yan Suryana Artists Community
·
Painting
projects
·
Visits by school
students, from all over Indonesia, to take part in workshops and to see painting
demonstrations.
Sponsorship
The Centre
welcomes enquiries from potential sponsors. Sponsorship of the Yan Suryana
Cultural Centre is acknowledged in on-site advertising, on our website and in all
promotional material produced by the Centre.
Sponsorship provides positive
exposure at the Centre, to visiting artists, local residents and tourists.
